DH15 Prizes and Deadline, Black Weirloom Jeans, and My First Collaboration
The ketchup effect. Ever heard of it? It’s an expression we use in Denmark for when all of a sudden everything seems to happen at once.
Last Friday, I launched The Fade Off with the prizes still missing. By Wednesday evening, the final sponsor was on board.
In the same week, a feature I’d wanted for years went live in my latest jeans guide, black Weirloom jeans went into production, and my first collaboration launched.
I’d love to say I planned the timing. I didn’t.
Here’s What You Can Win in The Fade Off
The DH15 celebratory fading competition has prizes. Here’s what the sponsors and friends of Denimhunters have put on the table:

For the online competition, Indigofera is sponsoring a pair of jeans, Tellason gives a belt, SOSOBROTHERS has mystery prize, and Brave Star a $150 gift card. From Weirloom, I’m throwing in a gift card and one of the new Heimat beanies (more on that below).
The separate in-store competition for jeans entered at Brund has a Freenote shirt, a Brund gift card, and another collab beanie.

I’m grateful to everyone who got involved. Now I want to see which of your worn-in pairs you’ll put forward.
Still got your fade photos buried on your phone? You’ve got time to find them—or take new ones this weekend, because I’ve extended the deadline.
Entries close on Monday, November 2 at 12:00 UTC. That’s the end of Sunday in the last time zone on Earth. Submit your pair before the cutoff. After that, the voting gallery opens.
And if Copenhagen is within reach, come to Brund on Thursday, November 2 from 17:00. I’d love to see you there 🤗🎉
What’s New in the Guides
I’ve finally put the shopping boxes into my best selvedge jeans guide. You can compare retailers stocking the same pair, see listed prices and sizes, and check other denims in the same fit. I’ve selected and checked the options myself. Next, I’ll roll this out to more guides.
Bryan’s working through the popular guides too. He’s replaced the Rolling Dub Trio Roots with the M42.5 in our boots guide and checked the engineer-boot recommendations and availability advice.

The heavy flannel guide now features the 14 oz. wool Benson from Freenote and substantial Melton wool options from Dehen, with new photos and retailer links.
In our raw denim jacket guide, he’s changed the Mister Freedom pick to the MAR-SUB, updated SOSO and Benzak, and revisited Tanuki and Samurai.
He’s also checked the N1 deck jacket guide. He’s working his way through the most-read guides to make sure the recommendations are still worth clicking.
Things Worth Your Attention
Heavy denim has been making a nuisance of itself in my inbox this week. Here are five worth a closer look—plus one that landed just as I was wrapping up:
The Strike Gold restock – Four fits are back at Redcast, including grey-weft slub, brown weft and ultra-slubby denims; pick the cut before you disappear down the fabric rabbit hole.
25 oz. SUMO is back – Brave Star’s heavyweight two-ply denim returns in True Straight pre-orders, limited to 50 pairs per batch.
#1 The Heavy returns – Gustin’s 13.75 oz. Japanese selvedge from its 2011 debut is back, alongside a very different four-way-stretch option.
Combat Boots in four colours – Franklin & Poe have new black and natural roughout John Lofgren boots, alongside olive and timber.
Already sold out: Wrangler x imogene + willie – The second US-made capsule brought back Wrangler’s vintage cuts in Mount Vernon broken twill. Even if you missed it, it’s worth a look.
Bonus: Wrangler Blue Bell arrives – As if on cue, Cultizm has the Japan-made 13MWZ Cowboy Cut in 12.6 oz. broken-twill selvedge, in raw indigo and black. The collection also includes the 11MJZ denim jacket.
Building My Brand: My First Collaboration
I’ve worn a red Heimat Mechanics Hat for years. When I met Christian and Gemma at Union in Berlin in January, we talked about giving it a Weirloom twist.
Two shades of blue wool, a tiny red selvedge detail on the label, and the familiar Mechanics Hat fit. My first collaboration is here, in a run of just 25.

The double-black Candiani selvedge has been waiting at my supplier for months. Now it’s going into WL#2 Slim Fits in Portugal, with shipping due in a couple of weeks. If you’re happy to wait, the usual 25% pre-order saving is yours.

Should You Freeze Your Jeans?
Chasing high-contrast fades? Putting off a wash might be tempting. Putting your jeans in the freezer instead won’t clean them.
In a 2019 University of Alberta experiment, freezing reduced bacteria on denim samples at first. Within 24 hours, the counts were climbing again.
I’ve updated my old article with the findings. Washing still does what freezing can’t.
